Hi there! My name is Aimee, and I am the founder of Aimee Georgia.
I have thought about creating an Aimee Georgia Journal for a while, as I enjoy writing my thoughts down, reading about new inspirations, and hearing other’s opinions in the fashion industry.
I hope for this Journal to be a place to come for motivation, to learn something new, to generate inspiration and creativity, and to become close to Aimee Georgia. I am excited to share my experiences, behind-the-scenes images, design and production processes, engage and communicate with you, and collaborate with my favourite inspirational people.
A backstory on Aimee Georgia,
It all started in September 2021, during the lockdown period. I was halfway through my fashion design degree, trying to complete assignments while confined to an apartment in Auckland. With all of the uncertainty, I somehow found inspiration, and creativity to begin sewing clothes for myself. I enjoy photography, and creating aesthetic content, so I began taking images of the clothing I have sewn myself and posted these to my personal Instagram account.
As it was lockdown, I found more confidence to express myself. I wasn’t in fear of what others would think about what I was doing. This gave me more encouragement, and motivation to do something I found happiness from. I noticed an immense amount of support through social media, so I created another account on Instagram, aimed to be the formation of my brand.
Since I was a young child, I have loved clothes. I was gifted sketchbooks to draw my designs on the models, cut-out clothing pieces to mix and match together, and a mini mannequin to pin fabric onto. Many family members would mention my creativity as a child. A fond memory of mine is when I would spend the school holidays at my grandma's house, with my sister and cousins. I would always beg to play the drawing clothing design game my grandma came up with. It consisted of four rounds. A 4x4 grid was drawn onto paper with a title at the top of each square. This title was our subject, it described what we were supposed to be designing clothes for. For example, a beach day, going to watch a movie, a shopping day in town, or a celebration. This was also a competition, my grandma would mark each outfit out of 10, and the winner would get to choose their favourite chocolate bar at the end. I loved this game, and was the only person to love doing the game too!
I am very much a notes app girly. You can find everything in my notes folder. I need to write anything on my mind in my notes as soon as possible. There’s hardly much organisation, and the strangest mix of thoughts and ideas. Because of this, I already had a note full of brand names, for if I began a business one day. I knew I quite liked the idea of having my personal name included in my brand name, as this creates a special link between the customer, the brand, and the owner of the brand. A few names included in the random assortment were; With Aimee, From Aimee Georgia, Dear Aimee Georgia, and Aimee Avenue.
I fell in love with making the brand name, Aimee Georgia. My first name and middle name are placed side by side. I love the way it sounds together when spoken, that it is simplistic, whilst still able to be remembered, and kept special to me. The name was chosen for me once born, and now is used to create valued, lifelong pieces for you.
Design was a subject I enjoyed at school. I created many mock-up brands, from skincare products to magazine covers. I loved seeing something come to life, look realistic, and take my inspiration to create something new. From this, creating an online website for my brand was exciting, and a new way to express my ideas. I enjoyed the process of researching how to use every tool on Shopify, how to display a website properly to enhance sales, and look aesthetically pleasing.
I launched the Aimee Georgia website on September 8th 2021. My first pieces were sets, consisting of bandeau tube tops, and mini skirts with side slits. When my first order came through on September 13th, I was stunned. To think that someone is willing to purchase something you have created, is such an amazing feeling. I wanted to bottle this feeling up, and keep repeating it within myself. Every customer is valued, and I will always be grateful for the support I receive from you.
Now fast forward to 2024, I have made a small office in my flat in Ponsonby, and am continuing to create, and share my designs with you all. My passion for designing pieces that are effortless, and made for everyday life is evergrowing.
I hope this journal provides you with a sense of belonging, and closeness to my brand, Aimee Georgia.
With love always,
Aimee x
