MEET THE MAKERS
Aimee Georgia is a collective of women based in New Zealand. We are proud to design and manufacture locally. Collaborating and bringing together women in the industry who share similar values and vision.
NINA DOUGLAS
I am Nina Douglas, born and raised in the Waitakere Ranges in Auckland, and studied a Bachelor's of Fashion Design at the Auckland University of Technology, finishing in 2023. I have worked at a fabric supplier in wholesale and retail, and am currently working as a garment cutter at a bridal company. I spend a lot of time with family and friends, often outside, camping, hiking, swimming, and doing everything to do with nature.
What is the reason you became drawn to fashion and working in the industry?
I have always been drawn to sewing as I was surrounded by my nana and mum, who were always making something. Taking textiles classes throughout school allowed me to develop my passion and skills for sewing. I love the problem-solving and hands-on aspect of sewing; I find it enjoyable to continue to challenge myself.
What are your dream aspirations and life goals?
I hope to become a textiles teacher at a high school level. I have always dreamed of being a teacher and inspiring the next generation. I appreciated the safe and inspiring environment the textiles room made for me, and I would love to replicate that for others while I teach them the importance of well-made and sustainable clothing.
What are you most excited for this year?
This year, I am looking forward to continuing to develop my technical skills through my job and in my own time. I am also looking forward to travelling and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone to learn more about the world we live in today.
MIA ALLAN
Heya, I'm Mia. Currently based in New Zealand. I teach sewing to children and adults across Auckland. Making sits at the centre of my everyday life, both professionally and in my own time. Curiosity drives my own approach, and I'm always exploring new ways to make. Teaching keeps me learning, and I'm continually inspired by my students and other creative disciplines, translating those influences back into sewing.
What is the reason you became drawn to fashion and working in the industry?
I've always been drawn to hands-on creative experimentation, especially with fabrics. Working with textiles became a way to express ideas and personality. I'm fascinated by how an idea can start somewhere unexpected and evolve into something tangible. Textiles is a space where experimentation, collaboration, and learning from others are all part of the process, and teaching allows me to engage with a co-creative approach while continuing to develop my skills.
What are your dream aspirations and life goals?
I aspire to create spaces where sewing and making in general are more than just skills. Places where people can experiment, explore ideas, and enjoy the process while having fun. I love that creativity can take many forms, and my goal is to foster collaboration and co-creation, giving others the chance to discover the joy of making in the same way I do.
What are you most excited for this year?
I'm excited to discover new places and connect with people from different backgrounds to explore their approaches to creativity and making. Learning new techniques and gaining fresh perspectives, while sharing my own skills and ways of making in return, has always helped me grow and develop as a maker. Experiencing creativity in different environments inspires new ideas and ways of making, and I hope to bring that inspiration into everything I create.
AIMEE WILSON
I am the founder and creative designer of Aimee Georgia. Born and raised in Napier, Hawkes Bay, I studied a Bachelor of Design majoring in Fashion Design at Auckland University from 2020 to 2022. I began the journey of Aimee Georgia in my second year of university, where times were uncertain, and I craved an outlet for my creativity. Since then, I have also worked for a fashion label, bridal company, eyewear brand, and an eatery, all focusing on social media, marketing, and brand direction. Alongside this, I have spent the past two years travelling the world, gathering inspiration and new experiences. Aimee Georgia is my passion, and a world I am excited to keep building.
What is the reason you became drawn to fashion and working in the industry?
Since I was young, I never realised how much fashion became an important part of my life and interests. From sketching designs with my grandma over the school holidays, to entering clothing competitions at high school. I am drawn to styling, the way clothes pair together, how accessories have an impact, the environment impacting your clothing, and the value clothing has on me. I became inspired by the way clothing makes you feel, the way fabric moves and complements your figure, and your own form of expression.
What are your dream aspirations and life goals?
First of all, Aimee Georgia is my dream. The world I'm creating, the community, the feeling Aimee Georgia gives you, this is my dream that keeps evolving. I love creating a vision, building that essence of a brand that feels more to you, and you become a part of it. Travelling, exploring the world, meeting new people, and making memories will always be a continuous goal of mine. There is so much of this world to see, and I always return with so much inspiration, motivation, new learnings, and core development.
What are you most excited for this year?
This year, I am excited to see where Aimee Georgia takes me and the world I'm creating. I'm excited to bring all my dream designs into creation and to see our community wearing Aimee Georgia. This year is all about the feelings of excitement, growth, forming a foundation, and being grateful. Spending valuable time with family and friends, building new friendships/relationships, saying yes to opportunities, and putting myself and Aimee Georgia out there. I cannot wait for what this year has to offer. Welcome to our world, AG.
Lecourtois Couture
Hi! I'm Dominique, a proud maker for Aimee Georgia's collections. Raglan has been my new home since I moved from Canada in 2004. I have a Fashion Designer degree from Montreal and graduated in 1997. I love anything made with care and attention, from garments to food, and enjoying life by the seaside.
What is the reason you became drawn to fashion and working in the industry?
The fashion industry is moving back into slow, smaller production and style-oriented products, which is what got me started over 30 years ago. Timeless, high-quality, and heirloom pieces are worth working on and purchasing, making the owner feel fabulous. Nothing like loving yourself in your clothes made with intention.
What are your dream aspirations and life goals?
I do dream of the day that mass production is no longer the norm, that smaller-scale crafters are everywhere offering their own vibes for all to enjoy.
What are you most excited for this year?
Each year offers more opportunities to learn and grow. I am helping more designers make their visions a reality. I am excited about inspiring collaborations, creative projects, and helping more people feel beautiful.
